So, is this actually true?

No current evidence. The idea comes from a 2022 Bloomberg report that Rockstar planned to grow the game over time with new missions and possibly cities. The original report dates to 2022, and Rockstar has not publicly confirmed this post-launch expansion plan.

The claim

Rockstar will expand GTA VI's map after release with additional cities or regions.

Where it came from

Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reported in July 2022 that Rockstar planned a smaller starting map that would grow, with new missions and even cities added over time. The Verge summarised the report on July 27, 2022. Rockstar declined to comment at the time.

What we know

In a 2026 Famitsu interview, translated by GTAVice.net, Rob Nelson describes an extremely large map whose areas unlock as the story progresses, starting in the Leonida Keys. Nothing official we checked mentions post-launch areas.

What we don't know

Whether the plan described in 2022 is still Rockstar's plan, whether expansions would be single-player or online only, and whether Rockstar plans any story add-ons.

Our assessment

Bloomberg's report deserves attention, but it dates to 2022 and Rockstar has not publicly confirmed the post-launch expansion plan it describes. The recent Rob Nelson interview we checked describes the map without mentioning expansions. We rate it low until a recent, independently sourced report or an official statement appears. The 2022 report is often cited as if it were current, which it is not.
