So, is this actually true?
Credibly reported, but not officially announced by Rockstar. A YouTuber who attended a Rockstar North preview reported seeing refuelling, and Rockstar's Rob Nelson was quoted discussing it. Rockstar has not described the feature in its own posts, so details could still change.
The claim
Vehicles in GTA VI use fuel, and players refuel at gas stations with a short animation.
Where it came from
YouTuber TGG reported the system after attending an early preview of the game at Rockstar North. GameSpot reported his account on September 1, 2026, and GamesRadar on September 3, 2026. Both articles attribute comments about the feature to Rockstar's Rob Nelson.
What we know
Both reports trace to the same preview visit and the same creator, so they are one origin, not two. GamesRadar reports TGG's description of a choice to repair or refuel at gas stations, with a refuelling sequence he estimates at about 10 seconds, and quotes Nelson saying "We'll see what people say" and "that's pretty fast for a fill-up". GameSpot reports that players will refuel cars with gas or recharge EVs, while a more realistic grocery-restocking idea was cut.
What we don't know
Whether fuel runs out during normal driving, how often players must refuel, whether it can be turned off, and how electric vehicles are handled. No Rockstar Newswire post or official trailer describes the system.
Our assessment
The strongest evidence is an identifiable person who saw the game at the studio, plus comments that two outlets attribute to a named Rockstar executive. It is still one origin, and the feature has not appeared in Rockstar's own channels, so we rate it medium rather than calling it confirmed.
