GTA VI online multiplayer reportedly arriving after the single-player launch

So, is this actually true?

Unverified as a whole. Rockstar describes GTA VI at launch as a single-player experience, and Take-Two says GTA Online will keep being supported after release. A separate GTA VI online mode arriving in 2027 is not official; that timing comes from a comment by Twitch's CEO.

The claim

GTA VI will launch on November 19, 2026 without its own online multiplayer mode, which will follow in 2027.

Where it came from

In a Bloomberg interview at Tokyo Game Show, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said GTA VI's multiplayer would arrive "next year". Video Games Chronicle reported the comment on September 18, 2026. Twitch is not part of Rockstar or Take-Two.

What we know

Rockstar's June 24, 2026 announcement says the game features a single-player experience. VGC also reports Take-Two describing GTA VI as a single-player title and saying it will continue to support GTA Online after GTA VI is released.

What we don't know

Whether a GTA VI online mode exists, when it would launch, and how Clancy would know. Rockstar has not announced any online component for GTA VI.

Our assessment

The launch half of this is settled by Rockstar's own wording that the game features a single-player experience. The 2027 half rests on one remark from someone outside Rockstar, made in passing; VGC notes Clancy said Twitch has been talking with Rockstar about its plans, but it is unclear whether he was sharing knowledge or guessing. No announcement of a GTA VI online mode exists. We rate the overall claim medium: the single-player launch is official, the online timing is not.
